The judicial commission probing the Gul Plaza fire tragedy has completed its inquiry, with the report handed over to the Sindh government for implementation.
The single-member commission, headed by Justice Agha Faisal, was constituted in February to investigate the causes of the January 17 blaze, examine building approvals and fire-safety arrangements, assess the rescue operation, and determine responsibility for any negligence or violations.
The fire claimed the lives of 73 people and destroyed more than 1,100 shops, according to official and media reports. The commission concluded its proceedings in April and submitted its sealed report to the provincial government.
The Sindh cabinet later decided to hand the report to the chief secretary for record and implementation purposes. The report has also become the subject of demands for public disclosure from political and civil-society quarters.
