Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has reiterated that the party still wants Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to join a broader opposition alliance.
Speaking to reporters after a joint opposition meeting, Gohar said PTI had previously expressed its desire to bring Fazlur Rehman into the alliance and continued to hold the same position.
He said the current opposition cooperation was largely focused on the National Assembly floor and legislative matters, while political parties were continuing consultations on expanding the alliance.
Gohar called for political forces to unite around an agenda aimed at strengthening Parliament, the judiciary and the Election Commission. He also stressed the importance of maintaining communication and dialogue among political parties.
The PTI chairman said representatives of the Pakistan Peoples Party had also held meetings with opposition figures, indicating that political engagement among different parties remained ongoing.
The renewed invitation comes as opposition parties work to develop a broader political front against the government. A recent opposition meeting also welcomed the possible participation of Fazlur Rehman and other political parties in a wider alliance.
Gohar further said PTI founder Imran Khan had entrusted Asad Qaiser and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas with authority to handle opposition movements and political affairs.
PTI leaders have also urged political workers to maintain political decency and avoid slogans against rival parties during discussions.
The proposed alliance would bring together parties with differing political backgrounds, making consensus a key challenge. However, PTI’s continued outreach to Fazlur Rehman signals its intention to broaden opposition cooperation and strengthen its parliamentary position.
For now, the alliance remains focused on parliamentary coordination, while consultations continue over expanding its scope.
