Bernie Sanders Rejects Trump Proposal to Rename Strait of Hormuz

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has criticized President Donald Trump’s suggestion that the Strait of Hormuz be renamed the “Strait of Trump,” saying Americans have more pressing concerns, including the conflict with Iran and rising fuel prices.

Trump floated the idea of renaming the strategically important waterway after himself as tensions between the United States and Iran remain high. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global energy route, with any disruption posing risks to oil supplies and international markets.

Responding to Trump’s proposal, Sanders said Americans do not want the waterway renamed after the president. Instead, he argued, people want Trump to focus on ending what he described as an “illegal war” with Iran.

Sanders also highlighted rising energy costs, citing diesel prices of $5.69 per gallon and gasoline at $4.12 per gallon. He accused Trump of focusing on personal recognition while American families face growing economic pressure.

“You’re the President, not a mad king. Act like it,” Sanders said in a sharp social media response.

Trump’s proposal has added to broader political criticism of his approach to geographical renaming and foreign policy. Previous naming disputes involving the Gulf of Mexico and other landmarks have also sparked political debate in the United States and abroad.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically significant waterways, connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and providing a major passage for global oil and gas shipments.

Sanders’ comments come as lawmakers and the public continue to debate the administration’s Iran policy, military actions and their impact on American consumers. The controversy over the proposed name change has quickly become another flashpoint in the wider political dispute surrounding Trump’s handling of the escalating regional crisis.
