Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei has warned that Tehran will adopt a “new strategy” against the United States as fighting between the two countries intensifies across the Middle East.

Rezaei made the remarks on Wednesday, September 2, following some of the heaviest exchanges of attacks between Iran and the US in weeks. In a post on X, he said Iran’s new approach would extend beyond the battlefield to diplomacy and efforts to counter the economic blockade imposed on Tehran.

“You will soon see that Iran’s new strategy on the battlefield, in diplomacy and in confronting the economic blockade will shatter your foundations,” Rezaei said.

His warning came after renewed US strikes on Iranian military targets, including sites near the Strait of Hormuz. The escalation has also prompted Iranian missile and drone attacks against US-linked positions in parts of the region. News+1

The latest confrontation marks another major escalation in the months-long US-Iran conflict. Fighting has increasingly centered on the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy shipments.

Iranian officials have vowed to respond forcefully to further American attacks, while Washington has indicated that additional military action remains possible. US President Donald Trump said American forces had carried out a “very heavy attack” against Iranian targets and remained prepared for further strikes.

Rezaei’s comments suggest Tehran could combine military operations with diplomatic initiatives and measures aimed at resisting economic pressure. However, he did not provide specific details about what the new strategy would involve.

The latest developments have raised fears that the renewed hostilities could spread further across the region, threatening energy supplies, international shipping and prospects for a negotiated end to the conflict.
