Theo Burrell, the respected ceramics and glass specialist best known for her appearances on the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow, has died at the age of 39 following a four-year battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Her family confirmed that she passed away peacefully on July 8, surrounded by her loved ones.
Burrell joined Antiques Roadshow in 2018 and quickly became one of the programme’s most recognizable experts, admired for her knowledge of decorative arts and warm on-screen presence. Alongside her television work, she was an auctioneer and specialist at Lyon & Turnbull in Edinburgh.
Diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2022, Burrell was initially given a life expectancy of 12 to 18 months. She exceeded that prognosis, marrying her longtime partner Alex earlier this year and seeing her young son begin school. Throughout her illness, she became a prominent advocate for brain tumour research and greater investment in cancer treatment.
Tributes have poured in from colleagues, viewers and cancer charities, remembering Burrell for her expertise, resilience and determination to help others facing the disease. She is survived by her husband, Alex, and their son.
