Electricity consumers across Pakistan are set to face higher power bills following new tariff adjustments approved by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).
NEPRA has approved an increase of Rs2.06 per unit under the monthly fuel cost adjustment for electricity consumed in July 2026. The additional amount will be recovered from consumers through their September electricity bills.
The latest increase is expected to put further financial pressure on households, businesses and other electricity users already struggling with high energy costs. The adjustment is linked to changes in fuel and power generation costs.
In a separate decision, NEPRA also approved a 52-paisa-per-unit increase under the quarterly tariff adjustment for the April-June 2026 period. The additional charge will be recovered from consumers over three months, from September through November.
The combined impact of the latest adjustments is expected to add billions of rupees to consumers’ electricity bills across the country.
Consumers, particularly those with higher electricity usage, are likely to feel the impact more significantly as the additional charges are reflected in upcoming bills. Businesses and industries may also face higher operating costs because of increased electricity expenses.
The latest tariff changes come amid ongoing efforts to manage the country’s power-sector finances and recover variations in fuel and generation costs.
NEPRA periodically reviews electricity tariffs to account for changes in fuel prices, generation expenses and other factors affecting the power sector.
The increases are expected to generate additional revenue for the power sector, but they are also likely to intensify public concerns over rising electricity prices and the growing cost of living. Further adjustments could be made in the future depending on fuel costs, power generation expenses and regulatory decisions.
