Torrential rains lashed Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Tuesday, leaving several low-lying areas submerged under rainwater and disrupting normal life across the twin cities.

The heavy downpour caused widespread urban flooding, with water accumulating on major roads, streets and residential areas. Several vehicles were stranded as commuters struggled to navigate waterlogged roads.

The situation became particularly serious around Nullah Lai, where water levels rose sharply following intense rainfall in the catchment areas. Authorities placed emergency response departments on high alert and began deploying dewatering equipment and heavy machinery to affected locations.

Several areas of Rawalpindi, including parts of Murree Road, Old Airport Road, Rahimabad and surrounding low-lying localities, experienced significant water accumulation. Traffic movement was severely affected, resulting in long queues and delays for motorists.

Islamabad also received heavy rainfall, with water accumulating in several low-lying areas and disrupting traffic on key routes. Residents were advised to avoid unnecessary travel and remain cautious while driving through flooded roads.

Emergency teams, including Rescue 1122, WASA and civil administration officials, continued monitoring vulnerable locations and working to drain accumulated rainwater. Authorities also urged residents living near Nullah Lai and other flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and follow safety instructions.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned of further rainfall, raising concerns about additional urban flooding in vulnerable parts of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Residents have been advised to stay indoors where possible, avoid crossing flooded roads and keep away from drains, nullahs and other fast-flowing water channels.

The latest spell of torrential rain has once again highlighted the vulnerability of the twin cities to urban flooding during intense monsoon weather, with authorities continuing emergency operations to minimize damage and protect residents.
