The U.S. House of Representatives has narrowly approved a $70 billion funding package aimed at strengthening immigration enforcement operations, providing long-term financial support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Border Patrol. The measure passed by a razor-thin 214-212 vote and now heads to President Donald Trump for his signature.

The legislation allocates approximately $38 billion for ICE, $26 billion for Border Patrol operations, and billions more for related homeland security needs through 2029. Supporters say the funding will enhance border security, expand enforcement capabilities, and support the administration’s immigration agenda.

The vote largely followed party lines, with Republicans backing the bill and Democrats opposing it. Critics argued the measure provides significant new enforcement powers without sufficient oversight or accountability measures, while supporters described it as essential for national security and immigration control.

The bill concludes months of political wrangling over immigration funding and follows a prolonged funding dispute that affected the Department of Homeland Security. Several controversial provisions debated during negotiations—including funding for White House security projects and a proposed “anti-weaponization” fund—were ultimately removed or scaled back before final passage.

If signed into law, the measure will secure funding for key immigration enforcement agencies for the remainder of Trump’s current term, marking one of the largest federal investments in immigration enforcement in recent years.
