Saudi Arabia will host the inaugural Dunes League T20, marking the kingdom’s first major domestic franchise cricket tournament as it pushes to expand its footprint in international sports. Organizers announced the launch on Friday, saying the competition will feature local and overseas players in a fast-paced Twenty20 format designed to grow cricket’s popularity across the Gulf region.
Tournament officials said the Dunes League T20 will take place later this year, with matches expected in Riyadh and Jeddah. The league aims to attract international talent, boost sports tourism and support Saudi Arabia’s broader investment in global sporting events.
The announcement adds cricket to Saudi Arabia’s rapidly expanding sports portfolio, which already includes Formula One, football and boxing. Officials said the league will create opportunities for regional players while strengthening ties with international cricket organizations.
“The Dunes League T20 represents a major step in developing cricket in Saudi Arabia and across the Middle East,” league organizers said in a statement.
