Pakistan Raises Petrol Price by Rs12.90 Per Litre Amid Global Oil Surge

The federal government has increased the price of petrol by Rs12.90 per litre, bringing the new price to Rs358.77 per litre, amid a sharp rise in global crude oil prices and growing concerns over international energy supplies.

The latest increase is expected to place additional pressure on consumers, transporters and businesses already facing higher operating costs. Petrol prices have a direct impact on transportation fares, logistics expenses and the prices of goods and services across the country.

The government has also raised the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs3.72 per litre, taking its price to Rs381.77 per litre.

The fuel price adjustment comes as international oil markets remain under pressure because of escalating tensions in the Middle East. Rising concerns about potential disruptions to crude supplies have pushed global oil prices higher, increasing Pakistan’s import bill and putting pressure on domestic fuel prices.

Pakistan relies heavily on imported petroleum products to meet its energy requirements. Changes in international crude prices and the rupee-dollar exchange rate therefore have a significant impact on the prices consumers pay at fuel stations.

The latest petrol hike is likely to affect commuters, public transport operators and industries that depend heavily on fuel. Higher transportation costs could also contribute to increased prices for essential commodities and other consumer goods.

The government reviews petroleum prices periodically based on international market trends, currency movements and other applicable costs.

With global oil markets remaining volatile, consumers and businesses are likely to closely monitor the next fuel-price review. Any sustained rise in international crude prices could create further challenges for Pakistan’s economy and household budgets.
