Firefighters worked through the night to contain a major wildfire burning across parts of Scotland’s Cairngorms National Park, as emergency crews continued efforts to prevent the blaze from spreading further.

The fire, fueled by dry vegetation and changing weather conditions, has scorched large areas of moorland, prompting a significant response from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. Multiple fire crews remained at the scene overnight, using specialist equipment to tackle hotspots and protect nearby communities and wildlife.

Authorities have urged residents and visitors to avoid affected areas while emergency operations continue. Several walking trails and access routes have been closed as a precaution, with officials warning that smoke and shifting winds could create hazardous conditions.

Environmental experts say the wildfire poses a serious threat to the park’s fragile ecosystems, including rare plant species and wildlife habitats. Assessments of the environmental damage will begin once the fire is fully contained.

The cause of the wildfire has not yet been confirmed, and investigations are expected after the blaze is brought under control. Officials have also reminded the public to follow wildfire prevention guidance, particularly during periods of warm and dry weather.

Emergency services remain on high alert as firefighters continue working to contain the blaze, with updates expected as conditions develop.
