Severe Heat, Humidity and Power Outages Trouble Multan Residents

Residents across Multan are facing growing difficulties as hot and humid weather combines with prolonged electricity interruptions, making daily life increasingly challenging.

The intense weather has increased demand for cooling, while repeated power cuts have left households, businesses and students struggling to cope. Residents say extended outages are particularly difficult during the hottest parts of the day and at night, when families depend on fans and air conditioners for relief.

The situation comes as prolonged power interruptions have already been reported across southern Punjab. In July, residents in areas served by the Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) reported outages lasting several hours at a time, with some rural communities experiencing up to 12–14 hours of daily unannounced cuts.

MEPCO has also announced scheduled shutdowns in parts of the Multan circle today for feeder division, maintenance, road-widening work and repairs to electricity infrastructure. Several feeders are scheduled for interruptions between 6am and noon, depending on the area.

Residents have expressed concern that prolonged outages during hot and humid conditions could pose serious risks to vulnerable people, including children and elderly citizens. Businesses relying on refrigeration and uninterrupted electricity are also facing difficulties.

Citizens are calling for better coordination and timely restoration of electricity, particularly during peak heat hours.

Authorities and power officials have been urged to ensure that planned maintenance is completed quickly and that emergency faults are addressed without unnecessary delays.

With temperatures and humidity continuing to create uncomfortable conditions, residents fear that further prolonged outages could intensify the hardship across the city.
