Pakistan has officially sighted the Zilhaj moon, and the country will celebrate Eidul Adha on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Sunday.
Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad confirmed the moon sighting after the committee meeting in Karachi. He said authorities received credible testimonies from multiple cities across the country regarding the sighting of the crescent moon.
According to the official announcement, the first day of Zilhaj 1447 AH will begin on Monday, May 18, while Eidul Adha will fall on May 27 nationwide. The Day of Arafah will be observed on Tuesday, May 26.
The announcement triggered Eid preparations across Pakistan, with citizens rushing to livestock markets, shopping centers, and bakeries ahead of the religious festival. Major cattle markets in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Peshawar witnessed heavy crowds shortly after the confirmation.
Eidul Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the obedience of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who was willing to sacrifice his son in submission to Allah’s command. Muslims mark the occasion by offering Eid prayers, performing animal sacrifices, and distributing meat among relatives and underprivileged families.
Authorities have also started finalizing security and sanitation arrangements for the three-day festival. Provincial governments are expected to announce official Eid holidays in the coming days.
Pakistan’s Eid date aligns with Saudi Arabia and several Gulf countries that also confirmed the Zilhaj moon sighting and announced Eidul Adha on May 27, 2026.
