A 26-year-old Colombian national was fatally shot by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during an immigration enforcement operation in Biddeford, Maine, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred on July 13 and is under multiple investigations.

According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), ICE agents were conducting surveillance related to an immigration case when the man, identified as Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, allegedly attempted to flee in a vehicle. Officials said an ICE officer opened fire after believing the vehicle posed a threat to public safety.

However, family members, immigrant rights advocates, and witnesses dispute the official account, saying Durán Guerrero was not the intended target of the operation and was legally authorized to work in the United States. They have called for a transparent and independent investigation into the use of deadly force.

The Maine Attorney General’s Office, the FBI, and the DHS Office of Inspector General are investigating the shooting. In the aftermath, the Trump administration has reportedly directed ICE to suspend most vehicle stops following two fatal agent-involved shootings within a week.
