France secured a place in the FIFA World Cup semifinals after a commanding 2-0 victory over Morocco in their quarterfinal clash.
After a tightly contested first half, captain Kylian Mbappe broke the deadlock in the 60th minute with a superb finish, before Ousmane Dembele doubled France’s advantage just six minutes later to put the result beyond doubt.
Despite Morocco’s determined display, the Atlas Lions struggled to create clear-cut chances against a disciplined French defence, which recorded another clean sheet in the knockout stage.
The victory sends Didier Deschamps’ side into the semifinals, where France will face the winner of the Spain vs Belgium quarterfinal. The reigning European giants remain on course for a third consecutive FIFA World Cup final appearance.
Mbappé’s goal also saw him draw level with the tournament’s leading scorers, further strengthening his case for the Golden Boot as France’s title challenge gathers momentum.
