Social media personalities Andrew and Tristan Tate have been arrested in Miami and are now facing extradition proceedings to the United Kingdom, where they face a total of 59 criminal charges, including rape, human trafficking, assault, and other alleged sexual offences.

The brothers appeared before a U.S. federal court and confirmed they will contest the UK’s extradition request. Under U.S. law, a federal judge must first determine whether the legal requirements for extradition are met before the final decision is made by the U.S. Secretary of State.

British prosecutors recently announced additional charges involving four more alleged victims, bringing the total number of alleged victims to seven. The Tate brothers deny all allegations and maintain they are innocent.

While extradition is not automatic, legal experts say defendants rarely succeed in blocking extradition requests that satisfy treaty requirements. A court hearing is expected later this month.
