Pakistanis planning to work in Oman are being urged to familiarize themselves with the Sultanate’s labour laws as demand for skilled and semi-skilled workers continues to grow across multiple sectors.
Under Oman’s Labour Law, foreign workers must hold a valid employment visa and work permit sponsored by an Omani employer before beginning employment. Workers are legally entitled to receive a written employment contract outlining their job responsibilities, salary, working hours, leave entitlements, and other conditions of service.
The standard workweek in Oman is generally limited to 45 hours, with employees entitled to weekly rest days and paid annual leave after completing the required period of service. Overtime work must be compensated in accordance with the country’s labour regulations, while employers are also responsible for providing a safe and healthy working environment.
Pakistani workers are advised to carefully review employment contracts before signing and ensure that salary, accommodation, transportation, and other benefits match the agreed terms. Labour experts also recommend keeping copies of all employment documents and understanding the procedures for filing complaints in case of workplace disputes.
Authorities have repeatedly warned overseas job seekers to use only licensed overseas employment promoters and avoid illegal recruitment agents who promise jobs without proper documentation. Workers should also verify the authenticity of job offers through relevant government channels before traveling.
Pakistan and Oman maintain strong labour ties, with thousands of Pakistanis contributing to sectors such as construction, healthcare, hospitality, logistics, and engineering. The Omani government has continued to update labour regulations to improve workplace standards and strengthen protections for both local and expatriate employees.
